“ex’s Uninsured, Unregistered Car Stuck In My Garage — What Are My Rights To Remove It? (md)

Location: Maryland

My ex-spouse (lives in Texas) and his brother stopped at my home in Maryland while traveling back from New York with his Subaru WRX. The car had just had a $50k, 800hp engine installed. I let them park it in my garage overnight for safety, but when they left for Texas, they left the WRX in my garage.

That was 3 months ago. Neither of them can come back anytime soon, and I need the garage space for my own car. The WRX:

Has expired registration
Is not insured
Likely worth around $80k

I am not comfortable driving it at all because of the engine’s power

I just want it gone. If I leave it on a public street, it’s very likely to be stolen.

My questions:

What are my legal rights in Maryland for having this car removed from my garage?

What are the risks if I move it to a neighborhood street and my HOA has it towed?

Is there a safe/legal way to treat it as an abandoned vehicle on my property so the state/authorities handle it?
