Davis Urges Congress To Restore The National Flood Insurance Program
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) is calling to restore authority for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) as part of any deal to reopen the U.S. government.
"Each day the shutdown continues, more homebuyers, sellers, and small businesses are put at risk. Congress must act urgently to restore the National Flood Insurance Program, a lifeline for eastern North Carolina," said Congressman Davis. "Our hardworking families cannot afford another day of uncertainty during hurricane season."
The lapse in NFIP authority has halted the issuance and renewal of flood insurance policies, delaying mortgage closings and real estate transactions across the region. In North Carolina's First District alone, more than 11,000 NFIP policies provide over $3.2 billion in insured value—coverage many rural and coastal residents rely on because private options are unaffordable.
The NFIP expired September 30.
