Commissioner Tim Temple Provides Input On The Future Of Flood Insurance During Fema Review Council Meeting In Washington

The following information was released by the Louisiana Department of Insurance:

Commissioner Tim Temple spoke at yesterdays Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Review Council meeting in Washington, D.C., onthe importance of a sustainable, affordable National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

"Louisiana knows firsthand the devastating impact of floods and hurricanes, and we also know the importance of having affordable, reliable insurance coverage, said Commissioner Temple. Reforming FEMA and the NFIP is not just necessaryit is overdue. On behalf of our state, I was grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the FEMA Review Council and my fellow insurance commissioners on building a more resilient future."

During the meeting, Commissioner Temple talked about the NFIPs importance to Louisiana, what can be done to improve FEMA and the NFIP, andpotential solutions for creating a stronger private flood insurance market. Louisianans hold 9% of all NFIP policies, and there are currently about 419,000 NFIP policyholders in Louisiana.

Commissioner Temples participation underscores Louisianas leadership role in national disaster preparedness, resilience and insurance innovation.

Earlier today, the Louisiana Department of Insurance released information for consumers regarding the expiration of the NFIP.
