Mirra Andreeva Credits Snoop Dogg For Her Iconic Speech In Indian Wells

Mirra Andreeva's victory speech at Indian Wells earlier this year caught the tennis world’s attention — not just for her triumph, but for her unusual and charming gesture of thanking herself during her speech. The young star later revealed during a recent podcast by Tennis Insider Club the inspiration behind that moment: none other than legendary rapper Snoop Dogg.

Andreeva shared that a few years ago she had seen Snoop Dogg deliver a speech where he famously said, "Last but not least, I want to thank me," with music dramatically playing in the background. That bold and humorous moment stayed with her. When she clinched her first big title in Dubai, she considered it the perfect time to recreate that iconic gesture, with a personal twist.

“A few years ago I saw a speech of snoop Dogg thanking himself, you know he said last but not the least I want to thank me and there's like this music that starts to play and I was like when I win a tournament, that would be a nice thing to say, so when I won Dubai I was like- maybe this is my time, okay I'm going to do it,” said Mirra.

"I changed the words a little bit so it didn’t seem like I copied him completely," Andreeva explained. "Everyone seemed to like it, everyone started to laugh. I didn’t say it seriously, I just really wanted to say it because Snoop did."

However, after the speech, the almost 18-year-old rising star reflected deeper on the sentiment behind it. “Why not thank myself?" she said. "I'm the one working every day, practicing, sweating, always tired, and spending half the day on the tennis court. So, I’m going to thank myself."
