Nar: Realtors Show Resilience Amid Affordability Challenges

Despite continued concerns over housing affordability, most real estate agents who are Realtors remain committed to their profession, according to a new report from the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

NAR’s 2025 Member Profile, released this week, shows that 74% of members said they are “very certain” they will remain active in the industry for at least the next two years.

Typical members had 12 years of experience — up from 10 the previous year.

“The real estate market will always have a consistent flow of new entrepreneurs,” said Jessica Lautz, NAR deputy chief economist. “Despite the headwinds in the current market, the majority of agents who are Realtors plan on staying in real estate as active professionals.”

The annual report analyzes member demographics, business activity, firm affiliation, technology use and income based on data from 2024.

Results are based on survey responses from 4,947 members collected in March 2025.

Agents completed a median of 10 transactions in 2024 — unchanged from the prior year. Median sales volume also held steady at $2.5 million.

While low inventory and limited property availability have historically topped Realtor concerns, 25% of members now cite housing affordability as the most significant barrier for buyers.

Median gross income among members rose to $58,100 in 2024, up from $55,800 in 2023.

The report also found that 55% of members are affiliated with independent firms, and 87% work as independent contractors.
