Man Receives 6-month Jail Sentence In Rochester Sex Abuse Case

ROCHESTER — A Rochester man received a six-month sentence after pleading guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Rochester.
Stephen Matthew Robertson, 65, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a juvenile age 16-17 between 2021 and 2022.
On Friday, Aug. 21, Olmsted County Judge Erin Lindhart Felten granted Robertson a downward dispositional departure, or a lighter sentence than usual for the crime, based on his particular amenability to sex offender treatment and probation, according to court documents.
In August 2025, Rochester police spoke with an adult who said he had been sexually abused by Robertson at a young age.
Robertson allegedly admitted to sexual contact with the then-child when police spoke with him.
Robertson was sentenced to an additional 15 years of probation, and must spend six months on electronic home monitoring after being released from Olmsted County Jail, according to Minnesota Court Records Online.
He may not have unapproved contact with juveniles or vulnerable adults, must register as a predatory offender and complete sex offender treatment.
If Robertson does not complete his probation and sex offender treatment without incident, he could be re-sentenced to 57 months (4.75 years) at the MN Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
