Amid divorce rumors, the former first lady spoke about former President Barack Obama’s financial status before their marriage, as Resist the Mainstream reported.

Obama was asked if she would be attracted to someone who isn’t financially stable.

In response, she said, “Uh, I married one.”

“I left my corporate firm when I met Barack. I had somebody who was like, ‘I got your back. The risks you think you’re taking, they aren’t that crazy, and I’m here to help you,’” she said.

Michelle said that the former president’s supportive nature was worth more to her than his financial status.

“I would rather have that in a partner than a higher income. I would rather have somebody who is ready to do some hard things with me,” she said, before adding that she also “had to be ready to do some hard things with him.”

After talking about her relationship with the former president, Michelle then gave some dating advice to women who are unsure about what they seek in a partner.

“I just think we shouldn’t assume. You just gotta get out there and meet people and come to people with your truth,” she said, per the Hindustan Times.

“I think women are also confused about what they want and what they should be looking for in a mate,” she said.

“I have a lot of friends who will ding a guy because, you know, he doesn’t have a college degree. So there are a lot of people who aren’t looking deep enough, they aren’t thinking broadly enough about what makes for a good partner, and instead, we all just look at the superficial things,” she went on.

Michelle claimed that “on the flip side,” men are too visual when looking for a potential partner, per the Grio.

“I think there are a lot of women who are open to a lot of different kind of men and a lot of different kind of lifestyles,” she claimed. “Women want a partner, they want to feel loved, they want to feel desired, they want to feel chosen.”

Michelle and Barack met at a Chicago law firm. In his biography: “A Promised Land,” the former president said he was “smitten almost from the second” he saw her. The couple got married in 1991.

Ultimately, the former first lady said that the key to finding a partner is to be “straightforward.”

“If you’re just straightforward with who you are, you know you’re going to find a mate, you’re going to find somebody that wants to go on that journey with you and will be excited about it, and it might make taking the risks, a little easier,” she said.
