Christian (@Christiancooks99) is a hopeful romantic who’s free-falling through the dating world. He’s chronicling his dates on TikTok, and it really proves that it’s not just princesses out there kissing a lot of frogs.

A recent first date story illustrates how truly feral it is out there. As Christian captioned his video, “This date takes the ‘worst date’ cake.”

Once Upon A Swipe

With over 3.6 million views, the internet wants all the tea. “I don’t know who raises these people,” says Christian. “It blows my mind how awful the dating pool is.”

Then he tells the kind of story that seems like a setup. Like perhaps the woman, who he anonymizes to “Karen,” was farming content for her own TikTok (she wasn’t).

He says things started well on Hinge. “The banter was good,” he says, so they set a date.

Get Whatever You Want

The weirdness started early. He says Karen texted him an hour and 15 minutes before the meet time. “‘Hey, I’m here,'” she messaged him.

She apologized but didn’t offer to wait or reschedule. “‘Oh, I’m sorry but I’m already here,'” he recalls her writing.

Confused but committed, he says he headed out.

Upon meeting, he says he noticed that she looked pretty different from her Hinge photos. “I’m not even sure it’s the same person,” he says, adding, “‘I’m 25.’ She looks closer to 50.”

Her haircut wasn’t helping. He says it gave “mom that would yell at you at the PTA meeting,” energy (hence, the Karen moniker).

He recounts her saying she wasn’t that hungry and planned to have something small. He says he offered to split an appetizer.

Then she proceeded to order six plates of jalapeño poppers, he recalls.

Jalapeño Poppers Galore

“Ninety Dollars,” he says to the camera. “Ninety dollars on jalapeño poppers.”

After the waiter dropped off his burger and her mountain of poppers, the chaos shifted into high gear. Karen was furious. “‘This is only 25 jalapeño poppers,'” she allegedly said. “‘I ordered 30.'”

The server apologized, but she snapped. “‘I know you have more back in the kitchen. What are you servers saving them all for, your snack?'” she reportedly said.

He says his Hinge date ranted for a few more minutes before demanding to speak to the manager and then corporate—except it’s a local spot. When she couldn’t talk to the owner, she picked up a plate of poppers, dumped it on the floor, and said, “‘[Now] I only have four orders.'”

Then she slid another plate onto the floor. “‘Now I only have three,'” she said, per Christian.

Christian said he, the manager, and the waiter stood there in shock.

The manager finally said they needed to leave or the police would be called, and they’ll be trespassed. Christian says he understood, settled the bill, and left.

But he says she decided to stay behind, still screaming about poppers.

Just Say ‘Goodbye’

Though in on-screen text, Christian asked for dating advice. However, viewers ignored that and zeroed in on the woman’s behavior.

“Let’s normalize leaving,” said Lilysofthefeild (@lilysofthefeild).

While another user comments on the ethics of leaving. “It’s definitely okay to decline a date if you show up and the person is very obviously not the person you were talking to online,” added Itszanielle (@itszanielle).

The first red flag, noted Zeinab Hourani (lucid-harmony_) “…is disrespecting your time.”

But perhaps Sam Ketting (@kettingsam79) asked the most important question of all, “How did she decide 6 was the perfect number?”

Then What Happened…

The internet can’t get enough of this unhinged Hinge date, so Christian posted an update. He says Karen got arrested. He also scored a free box of poppers from FarmRich, and he slipped the server $100 to make sure he’s welcome back. Though, the managers told him he’s not allowed to bring any more dates, he says.

“I can’t even imagine the manager trying to explain what happened to the cops,” he adds.

What To Do If You’re On A Date From Hell?

Hinge doesn’t have a monopoly on unhinged dates. So what to do if things get painfully awkward? Bustle suggests a few go-tos.

  1. Go in with an exit plan.
  2. Keep it short.
  3. Start getting “sick.”
  4. Have a very demanding “job.”
  5. Go to the restroom, and return with an invented reason to leave.

And if all else fails—say your date starts throwing plates—walk out, block them, and tell it to TikTok.

The truth is many people struggle to leave bad dates because first dates are inherently uncomfortable. GQ suggests lowering the stakes: Meet up at a concert. Head out to a picnic or walk in the park, or even just have a casual hang with some friends. Ease the pressure while still getting to know them.

And if the vibes are still off? Well, there are always more dates and apps waiting. As Christian says, “You gotta have faith. You gotta play the game.”

BroBible reached out Christian. And in his emailed reply, he mentioned that he’d done a very thorough update on TikTok and encouraged us to check it out.
