Surprising Suburban Towns Are Becoming Retirement Hotspots Where America’s ‘middle-class’ Seniors Lounge In Leisure

THREE surprising cities have been named the top retirement hotspots as nearly 74 million people plan to retire in the next few years. 

Americans are going beyond the typical Florida retirement homes as they search for a new place to spend their senior years.

Baby boomers are now reaching retirement age, with 74 million adults expected to be 65 and older by 2030.

As they age, boomers are searching for new “lifestyle-driven communities” with “resort-style perks,” according to the Daily Mail. 

Developers have responded to the demand for new and exciting communities for 55-plus individuals.

New retirement communities now feature fitness centers with pickleball courts, golf courses, social clubs, and art scenes.

Goodyear, Arizona; Sugar Land, Texas; and Clermont, Florida, are topping the list of the best places to retire. 

All three areas have had a rapidly growing 55-plus population over the past five years.

Healthcare is easily accessible, along with transportation options such as senior shuttles and walkable areas.

Plus, the cost of living is relatively low, making the neighborhoods an excellent option for those on limited incomes.

ARIZONA

Goodyear, Arizona, is a suburb of Phoenix and has become the fastest-growing retirement spot in the country.

Over the past year, the suburb’s 55-and-over population increased by 11 percent. 

The community is renowned for its vibrant social life and resort-like amenities, which include clubhouses, fitness centers, and live entertainment.

“Living in one of these [retirement communities] like living at a resort,” local realtor Sharon Rawlson told the Daily Mail.

“It’s like every day is Saturday or Sunday. If you’re bored, it’s your own fault.”

TEXAS

The second fastest-growing retirement community is Sugar Land, Texas.

With no state income and property tax exemptions, Texas is a popular destination for Americans aged 55 and over.

Sugar Land is a part of the Houston metro area and has the lowest property tax rate in the state.

It features several senior facilities, including those with riverside walking trails, shopping centers, and recreation centers.

Arista Riverstone is a standout facility with cocktail hours, casino trips, yoga, Bingo, and more.

FLORIDA

It may come as no surprise that Florida made the list, but Clermont, Florida, is on the rise as a top spot for retirees.

The area has lakes, golf courses, and theme parks perfect for those of all ages.

Clermont is known for its mild winters and has tons of assisted living facilities, memory care, and independent living choices.
