Card image cap

At Senior Lifestyle, we are deeply honored to serve those who have served our nation. Many of our residents are proud veterans, men and women who dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom. In our communities, they find the same dedication reflected back through compassionate care, vibrant connections, and the elevated lifestyle they deserve.

Senior Lifestyle is proud to connect senior veterans to VA benefits, healthcare, and supportive programs that bring greater comfort and peace of mind. Here’s an overview of the key benefits available and how they can help enhance quality of life after service.

Download How To Manage Elderly Health Care Costs

Whether you’ll pay for elderly health care costs yourself, will rely on family or will be seeking help, the rising costs of medicine, care and services for aging adults are a challenge. There are different levels of care for different needs, multiple ways to pay and ways to cut costs, too. This ebook will help you navigate all those options.

VA Healthcare System

The VA Healthcare System offers comprehensive care for eligible veterans, from preventive visits to specialized treatment for service-connected conditions. Enrollment is simple at VA.gov or through a local VA medical center.

Once enrolled, veterans gain access to primary and specialty care, prescriptions, and telehealth options that make managing health easier. At Senior Lifestyle, our on-site healthcare teams often work with veterans’ providers to coordinate seniors’ appointments, therapies, and follow-up care seamlessly.

VA Pension for Senior Veterans

The VA Pension for Senior Veterans provides monthly financial support to low-income wartime veterans age 65+, covering daily expenses so seniors can maintain independence.

Veterans who require a little extra support with daily tasks or personal care – such as bathing, dressing, or preparing meals – may qualify for Aid and Attendance (A&A) benefits. Similarly, Housebound Benefits are available for veterans who spend most of their time at home.

These programs can connect veterans with in-home care or Assisted Living services – options that help many in Senior Lifestyle communities experience greater safety and peace of mind.

VA Disability Benefits and Compensation

For veterans with service-connected conditions, VA Disability Compensation provides tax-free monthly payments recognizing their lasting sacrifices. Claims can be filed through VA.gov, and accredited service officers – such as those with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or the American Legion – can guide veterans every step of the way.

Housing, Long-Term Care, and Interment Benefits

The VA offers several programs that can support veterans with safety, security, and dignity:

  • VA Home Loans and Grants: Buy, build, or modify homes through low-interest VA programs. Mobility adaptations may be covered through Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) or Home Improvements and Structural Alterations (HISA) grants.
  • Long-Term Care Options: The VA supports veterans through Community Living Centers, State Veterans Homes, and home-based care programs for those requiring daily support.
  • Interment and Memorial Benefits: Eligible veterans may receive a plot in a VA national cemetery, along with grave markers and military honors, ensuring their service is remembered with respect.

These benefits ensure that the respect and care shown to those who served continue throughout every chapter of life.

Veterans Mental Health and Wellness

Emotional well-being is just as important as physical health.  The VA offers counseling, therapy, and peer support for conditions like PTSD, depression, and anxiety – available through VA medical centers or local Vet Centers

At Senior Lifestyle, veterans also find camaraderie and purpose through community events, meaningful conversations, and shared experiences that nurture emotional well-being. And if a veteran ever faces a crisis, the Veterans Crisis Line (dial 988, then press 1 or text 838255) is always available.

Veteran Support Organizations

Beyond the VA, many nonprofit and community organizations stand ready to support senior veterans and their families. These organizations – and many others across the country – offer invaluable resources to veterans and their families. Senior Lifestyle teams often connect seniors with these programs:

Regional organizations also provide tailored support focused on housing, healthcare access, and caregiver assistance. Many partner with senior centers and senior living communities to make veterans’ programs easier to access and navigate. You can check your state or region for additional options.
