Ceresti Raises $11.7m For Guide-powered Dementia Caregiver Support Platform 

Ceresti, a company that supports family caregivers of individuals with dementia, has raised $11.7 million in a venture funding round on Aug. 13. The amount was part of a planned $15 million offering, according to publicly available documents.

Ceresti connects home caregivers with remote care coordinators, paid for through the Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) model. Guide is an alternative payment model from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that expands access to support for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

Many home-based care companies are participating in GUIDE, finding that the model leads to expanded referral networks and improved patient quality of life. Ceresti’s progress highlights the opportunity of the model and its support for the nation’s rising number of unpaid family caregivers, in particular.

Individuals with dementia often cannot self-manage chronic conditions or other emerging health issues, leading to frequent hospitalizations, increased costs and a decline in their baseline health. Including family caregivers in the care team enhances care and eases the burden on primary care physicians by allowing them to focus on medical issues during patient encounters, according to the company.

Carlsbad, California-based Ceresti Health’s platform includes personalized health education and access to resources, as well as care navigator coaching.

Ceresti’s funding rounds have included a seed round and growth capital investments from various investors, such as Stella Development and Tech Coast Angels, according to Crunchbase. The company also received a grant from the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health, to test an innovative approach to improving health equity for Latino adults living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
