Hyderabad:A woman who noticed her boyfriend had been declared brain dead following a road mishap allegedly stole his mobile phone and transferred Rs 32 lakh to her father's account at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad. The victim’s 43-year-old mother faced a tough battle with the Hyderabad police to get a case registered after noticing the missing mobile phone.

Following the intervention of police commissioner C.V. Anand, the Market police registered cases of theft of property, cheating, criminal breach of trust and conspiracy against the girlfriend, her father, and another person — five months after the incident. The cases were registered against Peddinti Medha Reddy, her father Peddinti Ravi Reddy, who is employed with an infrastructure major, and Sai Pavan Asadi.

On November 15, 2024, the victim, Ponnaboina Mallikarjun Yadav, Medha Reddy, his girlfriend and business partner, and Sai Pavan, among others, celebrated a party after Sai Pavan arrived from Australia. While returning home, Yadav met with a road accident at Paradise flyover and was shifted to a corporate hospital, where he was declared brain dead. Medha Reddy allegedly took Mallikarjun's mobile phone and transferred `32 lakh to her father's account.

Mallikarjun, Medha Reddy, Ravi Reddy and Sai Pavan had established a business, Timberforce Constructors, on March 12, 2024, with Mallikarjun authorised to handle the firm’s financial transactions.

When Mallikarjun’s mother, L.G. Mukeswari Yadav, filed a complaint with Bolaram police, the inspector refused to register a case. After the complainant received a text message stating the complaint was closed, she approached the police again, who asked her to settle the issue with Medha Reddy’s family.

A week ago, Mukeswari wrote to police commissioner Anand, who responded promptly and directed the Market police to register a case. The Market police also issued memos to the Bolaram police for negligence.

Mukeswari, a private employee residing at Risala Bazaar, said she was shocked by the death of her elder son. She alleged that Medha Reddy, influenced by her father Ravi Reddy, misused her son’s mobile phone to transfer funds and that the Bolaram police failed to act on her initial complaint. "Finally, I wrote to the commissioner, who directed the Market police to register a case. They registered a case on April 23, 2025, and handed over the FIR," she said.

She also alleged that Ravi Reddy, who also serves as the principal of an engineering college in Bhubaneswar, had added her deceased son’s name as an assistant professor for the CSE branch with employee code No. 3282317003 on the college website. “My son was just a 25-year-old. How could his name be added as an assistant professor for an engineering college,” she questioned.
