Samsung’s Harman Acquires Us Based Masimo’s Audio Unit

Samsung is boosting its global audio business through its subsidiary, HARMAN International. On May 6, HARMAN signed a deal to acquire the audio business unit of US-based Masimo for $350 million (about 500 billion won).
This acquisition includes several luxury audio brands such as Bowers & Wilkins (B&W), Denon, Marantz, Polk, and Definitive Technology. HARMAN plans to use these luxury brands to provide unique sound experiences to carmakers and customers around the world.
B&W is a brand loved for its high-end sound and elegant design. It is mainly known for its iconic ‘Nautilus’ loudspeaker and ‘Zeppelin’ wireless speaker. Denon is a 115-year-old brand that invented the CD player, while Marantz is known for its premium amplifiers and receivers.
HARMAN already leads the portable audio markets with brands like JBL, AKG, Harman Kardon, Infinity, and Mark Levinson. The new brands will strengthen HARMAN’s position in both consumer and car audio businesses.
This move is expected to create synergy with Samsung’s mobile, TV, and home appliance businesses. Samsung has already used Harman’s AKG and Harman Kardon sound tuning in its smartphones, laptops, and TVs. With new brand additions including B&W, Denon, and Marantz, Samsung aims to offer even better sound quality across its devices.
Samsung‘s HARMAN plans to complete the acquisition of US-based Masimo within the year. It continues expanding its influence in the global audio market, which is expected to grow from $60.8 billion in 2025 to $70 billion by 2029.
