Is A Bond A Dumb Baby Gift For The Child Of A Wealthy Finance Bro?

Card image cap

EDIT!: After visiting the treasury's website, buying a US bond is insane. You can only buy bonds one of two ways- 1) electronically, which requires that myself AND my family member make a treasury account and she give me her baby's SSN or 2) Paper bonds, which can ONLY be purchased with IRS refunds. I don't even GET refunds anymore, I own my own business and owe taxes at the end of the year. ("You can only lend the government money with returned interest by using the money you lent us interest-free." How does that make sense??)

PLEASE give me other thoughtful ideas in the same vein!

A family member of mine just gave birth to a baby, and I wanted to send a card and a small gift/gesture that could fit in an envelope. (I mailed a package for their baby shower, the postage cost more than the gift itself).

I remember when I was born, christened, etc family gifted me bonds. However, this particular family member definitely married up. Their spouse is very nice and comes from the kind of family with multiple homes in various desirable zipcodes, and I'm pretty sure spouse works in the field of finance/investing.

I know bonds are a "safe" investment with modest returns. Is it a tone deaf gift for this kind of family?
