Fox’s Stuart Varney Asks Michigan Republican If Trump’s Policies Have Actually Created ‘any New Manufacturing Jobs’

Fox Business anchor Stuart Varney asked Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) on Friday whether or not President Donald Trump’s economic policies — including his imposition of sweeping tariffs — have actually resulted in any manufacturing jobs coming home.

“Joining me now is House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain. Congresswoman, you represent that district. Why is Trump coming to you?” Varney asked, noting that Trump will be in her district to mark his first 100 days in office.

“Well, Michigan came through for the president and Macomb County is the heart of Michigan and I would argue really the heart of America. We are hardworking, American-loving people. We’re excited to welcome President Trump,” McClain began, adding:

We love his policies. We love the fact that he is bringing jobs back to America, but more importantly, he cares about bringing jobs back to our community. We’re heavily manufacturing, heavily auto. We are just excited to see the president. Look at what he’s accomplished in his first hundred days, and it is really making a positive difference for the people of my community.

“Has the president’s policies thus far brought any new manufacturing jobs to your district?” Varney asked.

“Yeah, look, we have almost $5 trillion, I think it’s closer to six now, of investment that President Trump has brought back to the United States. Apple is putting in a new facility. That is gonna affect our district. But the number one thing that the president is bringing to our state and specifically my district. We haven’t had hope in so long,” McClain replied, adding:

Look, Michigan ranks third behind California and New York for manufacturing jobs lost. The president is trying to level the playing field and trying to be a job creator for manufacturing jobs that is critical for our state and my community.

“Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says that tax reduction package will be passed as early as July 4th. Is that a realistic timeline?” Varney then asked.

“I’m optimistic that we can get it done a lot sooner than July 4th,” McClain replied.
