Eric Adams Blasts ‘snake Oil Salesman’ Zohran Mamdani, Says Andrew Cuomo ‘didn’t Want The Job’

New York City Mayor Eric Adams tore into likely Democratic opponent Zohran Mamdani and his campaign promises after the Queens assemblyman declared victory in the mayoral primary Tuesday night.
Adams, a Democrat himself who’s running on the Independent ticket, called Mamdani a “snake-oil salesman” who will “say and do anything to get elected” as he appeared on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning.
“Think about this for a moment,” Adams added. “He wants to raise 1% — he wants to raise tax on the 1% of New York’s high-income earners. As the mayor, you can’t do it. Do you know who has the authority to do that? An assemblyman, which he is. He wants to do free buses, he could have done it as an assemblyman. He doesn’t understand the power of government and how you must make sure you improve your economy, raise the standard of living and this is what we have.”
Later in the interview, as Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones asked Adams if he was worried about Mamdani’s rise, Adams suggested his momentum may come to a screeching halt in the general election:
LAWRENCE JONES: Mr. Mayor, it has to worry you that your party chose this radical. I mean, we can sugar coat it all day. He got a lot of support. He was working the streets. He was knocking on doors. He was all on social media. Was going from Harlem to the Bronx. And he galvanized people to support him. He is 33 years old. He just recently became an American. He has anti-Jewish rhetoric, anti-police rhetoric, and voters voted for him. He beat the former governor.
ERIC ADAMS: Well, I think your analysis is right on where he stands. But let’s think about this for a moment. When you look at the total number of Democrats, the primary always brings out the left part of the party, always. Well, now you are going into the general election. You are going to get those grandmothers, those granddads, those working-class people who are going to come out because they realize they don’t want to defund their police department. They want the police on their block. They realize that you have to invest in businesses. And small property owners are hurting in this city, when you talk about freeze rent and no rent? Is he part of the freeze rent no-rent movement, that small property owners were losing their homes. Talking about black, brown, caribbean, immigrants who are small property owners, that is the message that we need to get there.
Adams also had some choice words for disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who conceded to Mamdani hours earlier and may now run against Adams on an independent ticket.
“Andrew, at this time, should realize that the time has moved on. He just did not bring the energy of wanting to be mayor. And New Yorkers, they have the smell test. They know, ‘Do you want the job?’ You can’t come out on weekends, go to a black church, go eat some fried chicken and all of the sudden saying that I have the black vote, I have the working-class people vote. It’s just not the reality. People know if you want the job. He didn’t want the job.”
