Elite Biglaw Firm In Talks To Hire Former Government Heavy Hitter

DLA Piper, one of the most successful Biglaw firms in the world, is reportedly in talks to bring aboard a popular former government figure as a consultant.

As noted by the American Lawyer, the firm — which came in at No. 3 on the 2024 Global 200 — has been chatting with former U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron. His move would require clearance from the U.K.’s Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, an organization designed to prevent misuse of privileged information for personal gain. Here are some additional details:

Lord Cameron previously served as prime minister from 2010 to 2016, initially leading a Conservative–Liberal Democrat coalition before heading a Conservative majority government, returning to front-line politics for a brief stint as foreign secretary from 2023 to 2024.

He resigned as prime minister in the wake of the Brexit referendum, and his potential appointment could return him to the spotlight—ironically coinciding with current U.K. PM Keir Starmer’s efforts this week to soften some post-Brexit restrictions, particularly those affecting trade.

A spokesperson for DLA Piper said there was “nothing to comment on at this point” with regard to Cameron’s potential start date at the firm.
