D300 Food Pantry fundraiser underway through Dec. 10
D300 Food Pantry’s annual holiday shopping fundraiser in ongoing through Wednesday, Dec. 10, and is expected to serve more than 600 children, organizers say.
The program allows parents and guardians the opportunity to select gifts for their kids and offers nontraditional pantry food items the in-need families often cannot access, a news release said.
Participants are encouraged to hold drives to collect items from the holiday gift idea list, which can be found at www.d300foodpantry.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Holiday-Shopping-Flyers-idea-Lists.pdf.
Gifts can also be dropped off at the pantry’s outreach center, 21 N. Washington St., Carpentersville, from noon to 2 p.m Saturday, Nov. 29; 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7; and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8.

Tickets on sale for Northern Kane County chamber luncheon
Tickets are on sale through Wednesday, Nov. 26, for the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce’s 38th annual holiday luncheon to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Bleuroot, 98 W. Main St., West Dundee.
Proceeds from the luncheon and associated raffles and drawings will benefit the chamber’s Women in Business and Dollars for Scholars programs, according to the chamber website.

Book sale at Gail Borden Public Library this weekend
Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation will be holding a book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, in the lobby at the main Elgin library branch, 270 N. Grove Ave.
Used books, DVDs and CDs will be available, with most items priced at $1 or $2, according to the library’s website. Proceeds will support library exhibits and literacy initiatives.

Dark comedy ‘Clean Hands’ being stage at Side Street Studio
Theater group Memoriam Development will present the world premiere of the dark comedy “Clean Hands” at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at the Side Street Studio Arts backspace, 15 Ziegler Court, Elgin.
The story follows Shea Summers as she attempts to bring her family’s soap company into the 21st century after her father’s death, according to the Side Street website. The 90-minute play was written by Amanda Davila and Nick Mataragas and stars Madison Taylor as Shea, Ken Craig as Pete, Dani Hoske as Lara and Nick Mataragas as Pat Musto.
It will also be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29; 2 p.m Sunday, Nov. 30; 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5; and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.sidestreetstudioarts.org.
Elgin Lions Club poinsettia sale orders due Sunday
The deadline to order poinsettias through the Elgin Lions Club annual sale is Sunday, Nov. 30.
The plants are 6½ inches tall and cost $15 each if paid for with cash or check or $15.75 if paid for with a credit card, according a the Lions Club website. Orders to homes in Elgin, Carpentersville, East Dundee and West Dundee will be delivered the week of Monday, Dec. 8.
Proceeds from the sale will be used to provide eyeglasses to local adults and children.
