Dodgers Could Cut Ties With Max Muncy After Latest Report
During the 2025 campaign, the Los Angeles Dodgers have allowed Max Muncy to play third base full-time. He moved over to third base essentially full-time during the 2022 campaign and has helped the Dodgers out in a massive way.
However, after some of the moves the Dodgers have made over the past few days, releasing Austin Barnes and Chris Taylor, Muncy might be the next one in line to get designated for assignment.
Being with the team since the 2018 campaign, and winning two World Series in Los Angeles, moving on from him wouldn't be an easy decision. Unfortunately, Muncy has played brutal baseball during the season.
According to a recent report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers are interested in Ryan McMahon of the Colorado Rockies, which could be the writing on the wall for the 34-year-old Muncy.

Throughout the 2025 season, Muncy has struggled, hitting just .211 with a 93 OPS+. He only has three home runs and has struck out 46 times in 142 at-bats.
Muncy has been a bit better in recent weeks, raising his batting average from .177 to .210 over his past 10 games. Still, this year, he hasn't played up to his standards.
The Dodgers are showing everybody in the clubhouse that they mean business right now.
If that means they have to move on from somebody like Muncy, a fan favorite, that's what will happen. However, instead of designating him for assignment, it'd make more sense if they traded him.
