Daemons Of The Shadow Realm Episode 5 Recap, "hare And Tortoise"
Welcome to Daemons of the Shadow Realm and the recap for the fifth episode, “Hare and Tortoise.” In the previous episode, Yuru, Dera and Hana, along with Yuru’s Daemons Right and Left, moved into their new apartment. But any plans to stay quiet and inconspicuous were quickly shuttered when Yuru went on a mission with Right and Left to find his sister Asa and learn the location of his long-lost parents. The group ran into Jin of the Kagemori clan, who Yuru took hostage. His demand? Bring Asa here now. NOTE: Spoilers for Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 5 ahead! Clean Up Crew Jin’s back-up, Haruo, balks at Yuru’s request, but Jin says that, if he wants to see Asa, he needs to come to Kagemori manor. Jin promises that he won’t be harmed if he does. Yuru refuses at first, even though Jin says that Asa wants to see him as well. Yuru does let Jin’s henchman, Akio, tend to Jin’s wounded leg, and tells him that he didn’t cut deep because he knows that Jin wasn’t trying to kill him either. If Jin’s intentions had been to kill Yuru, then Jin’s Daemon Ai would have in the beginning. However, there are still Daemons left to be revealed, Daemons that Right and Left can sense. Akio has his own pair, but they are terrifyingly huge and can’t fit in the building. Yuru eventually agrees to go to Kagmori manor, but tells Jin not to be rude to Right and Left anymore. Jin explains why Ai and Makoto are “scavenger” Daemons. Jin gives Makoto things to eat that he might need later for raids and terror attacks, like guns and weapons. And when that eventually causes a huge mess, Ai uses its big mouth to swallow and clean everything up. Yuru isn’t quite sure what all of that means, but he gets why they’d be so useful. Meanwhile, Left asks how heavy Haruo’s tortoise Daemon is, but Haruo doesn’t know. Left resolves that she needs to train more, seeing as, in the previous episode, the Daemon almost crushed her. A night watchman finds them all and, unable to see the Daemons, politely tells the group that, as the lights in the parking deck have all shattered, they can use the well-lit stairwell to exit the building. Homecoming At Kagemori manor, Asa gets a text about Yuru arriving and she violently wakes up Gabby. What will she do!? What will she wear!? Jin calls the Master to let him know that they’re on their way. The Master is at the hot spring with his Daemons, but he’ll be back at the manor right away. When they arrive at the manor, Yuru sees that it is heavily guarded and fortified. On the way up to the manor, Right becomes confused. Weren’t there supposed to be a lot of Daemon wielders there? He’ll sense them soon, though, when they pass through the “barrier” to the “VIP” section. There are so many Daemons there that Right and Left can’t even keep track of them all. Gabby wishes Asa well in her reunion with her brother, but doesn’t want to see Yuru because she’s still hurt and he’s the one who hit her with two arrows. She goes back to sleep as Asa rushes to the meeting spot. When Dera and Hana learn from Jiro’s tracking that Yuru is in Kagemori manor, though, they’re less than pleased. Dera decides, rather nonchalantly, to go get Yuru back. At the front door of the manor, they’re greeted by Asuma, who came to “entertain” the freshly arrived Higashi village twin. He seems to have eavesdropped on Jin’s plans to bring Yuru there and he marvels at the presence of Right and Left. Asa runs out and is so pumped up about Yuru that she asks to hug him. Yuru is just as confused about his feelings as she is, but he remains resolute to ask her about their parents. Asuma offers to show Yuru around the manor, but Jin steps in and says that Yuru is THEIR guest. Asuma has no business with him. Asuma cheerfully leaves, and Jin tells Akio to stay outside the manor and prevent anyone from entering. The Parents’ Location First, to the infirmary. Jin is treated by a doctor who can’t believe that he’d been attacked by a young man with a machete. Yuru thinks that every boy should have at least one or two machetes, a belief that Asa supports. Jin offers the vial of Asa’s blood back to the doctor, and Yuru is appalled that he’d take blood from women and children. Asa calms him down, because with modern technology and a skilled doctor, they can take blood easily and painlessly. Haruo, watching on the side, is baffled at how Yuru can so easily dispense violence, but hates the idea of giving blood. Asa tells Yuru that with all the food they give her, drawing blood is no big deal. Yuru says that, no, she shouldn’t be that big. The Asa he knew was much tinier. Asa responds that if Yuru ate more food in the modern world, he’d get bigger, too. It sounds gross to Yuru. They’re too liberal with their seasoning around here. The rice, though? That’s pretty tasty. Yuru demands that Asa tell him where his mother and father are and to let him see them. They’re not at the manor, though. In fact, Asa has no idea where they are. Jin tells Yuru that, after they left the village and the Kagemoris took them in, his parents decided to visit his mother’s home in Okinawa. She wanted to assure her own parents that they were okay. However, on the flight to Okinawa, the couple vanished. They boarded in Tokyo, but were somehow missing when the plane landed in Okinawa. The Daemon Wielder assigned to guard them on the trip disappeared, too. Asa still trusts the Kagemori clan, though, because the Master and his people helped save Asa from the assassins that came after her when she left Higashi village. Elsewhere, mysterious voices discuss Yuru’s arrival at the Kagemori manor. They talk about what an event it is that the twins are finally together and wonder if they should take the opportunity to seize them. One says that it’s okay if the boy dies now. All they need is the girl’s head. At that point, two Daemons that look like ghostly killer whales with Yin and Yang signs on their heads attack the manor. In her room, Gabby sees two other Daemons that she doesn’t recognize looking at her. Jin tells Yuru that these are an outsider’s Daemons, and that he would prefer to capture their master. The doctor says that if they fight them, kill them, because she doesn’t want to have to treat their wounds, too. Also, if Daemons aren’t transferred to a new master after their old master’s death, they become strays and stay attached to their current location. Yuru says he’ll try not to kill their master so these Daemons don’t become bothersome strays, and Jin calls upon Makoto to spit up some weapons, including a bow and arrow. With one in hand, Jin fires upon the oncoming Daemons. What's in store for Yuru and his Daemons? Find out in the next episode of Daemons of the Shadow Realm right here on Crunchyroll!
