PENAMPANG (Nov 25): Barisan Nasional (BN) Penampang chief Datuk Hasnol Ayub and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan yesterday reaffirmed their commitment to joint BN–Pakatan Harapan (PH) cooperation in the Moyog constituency, describing the partnership as firm, genuine, and free of ambiguity.

Ramanan, who is overseeing PH’s campaign in Moyog, expressed deep appreciation for Hasnol’s unequivocal support.

“I must express my deepest thanks to Datuk Hasnol. He has been completely open-hearted, offering full cooperation without any reservations.

“Just three days ago we had discussions, and suddenly we could truly see solid support not only from United Malays National Organisation (Umno) but also from Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), United Sabah People’s Party (PBRS) and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) Penampang. This cooperation can happen, can take shape, and can succeed with good teamwork,” he said.

Speaking to reporters when met at a joint engagement with PH’s candidate for Moyog Remysta Jimmy Taylor here on Monday night, Ramanan said he felt fortunate to be working with Hasnol, describing the BN Penampang chief as a vital partner in ensuring a smooth campaign.

“In Penampang, I have Datuk Hasnol as the Umno Division chief and BN chief. It makes it easy for us to work. I accept it wholeheartedly, with open arms, and Datuk Hasnol has informed me that the machinery is ready to move together with the candidate,” he said.

Hasnol, meanwhile, underscored that BN’s position in Penampang has been consistent and unwavering.

“We are very clear. Our partnership is BN–PH. There is no ambiguity. I do not need to get instructions from anyone because the foundation in Sabah is BN with PH. So when they came to ask for help, even before that, I already wanted to assist. And I know the candidate very well,” Hasnol said, adding that he had observed Remysta’s capabilities for over a decade.

“He has big potential. He is a man of calibre. Even 10 or 11 years ago, when he was very young, we discussed how to uplift not only the district but the entire state. His vision for young people and for Sabah’s future has always been consistent,” Hasnol said, describing the candidate as a refreshing presence in Penampang politics.

“For a 37-year-old, he is very mature. If we keep going back to the same people, using the same ideas, doing things the same way, but hoping for different outcomes, that is insanity. We need someone like him to disrupt the system, to disturb the status quo, to bring something new,” he stressed.

He added that Penampang may be the first constituency to openly model BN–PH cooperation at the grassroots level.

Hasnol confirmed that BN and PH machinery would begin moving together immediately.

Meanwhile, Remysta when addressing the attendees of the event, outlined several initiatives he hopes to implement in Moyog if given the mandate by constituents.

“I want to see a well-equipped medical facility built in Moyog. With about 31,000 people living in this constituency, it is time there is a hospital here. Time is of the essence during medical emergencies, which is why there is an urgent need for a well-equipped medical facility in Moyog,” he said.

Remysta also said that he would set up one stop centre for villagers in Moyog to visit when they need to get any documentation done.

“This balairaya will be equipped with computers and staffed by people who can help villagers type letters, fill in forms and all that. That way, they can have all the necessary documents ready before going to the state capital for any business.

“Imagine if they did not have the necessary documents when they go to the town or the city to do business, and had to go all the way back home to get it and back again. This is a burden to them,” he lamented.

Remysta also highlighted the importance of education. To ensure that the children in Moyog can excel, he plans to introduce free tuition for students sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
