Backpackers, Students Face Tighter Visa Restrictions Under Government's Migration Plan | 7.30

After some internal debate and delays, the government has now laid out its migration plan. New international students will not be able to get visas for their family members, with a few exemptions, and when they graduate, they'll only be able to get another student visa if it is for a higher qualification.

More controversially, the number of backpacker visas will be cut on the promise that applications will be processed faster.

The government is also promising to be tougher in deporting people and target people overstaying their visas.
