CHRIS EUBANK JR once begged his dad to let him try boxing – and Lennox Lewis came to his aid.

The fighter fulfilled Eubank’s Sr by beating Conor Benn – the son of his boxing rival Nigel.

It was the 35th professional win of Jr’s career yet his father never wanted him to follow in his footsteps.

But Jr always had aspirations of entering the ring – even as young as 13.

In footage from 2003, Eubank Jr tells his dad: “I just want to try it. I just want to see what it is about.

“If he can do it why can’t I.”

Eubank Sr was very dismissive of his ambitions, and replied: “20 world championship wins son.”

Sr told his son boxing is a “tragic business to be in” for fighters who do not make it to the top, and he pleaded for him not to be stubborn and bull headed.

His ex-wife Karron, Jr’s mum, quickly interjected and accused Sr of possessing those characteristics himself.

The former middleweight champion then claimed his son could be left disfigured from taking too many punches to the face.

Lewis then hit back saying: “Am I bad looking?…Why are you putting that into the kid’s head.

“What you’re saying is irrelevant at this time.”

Lennox then put it to Sr another way, saying: “I would never want, when I have kids, for my son or daughter to be in a car crash.

“So what do I do? I say I’m not buying you a car and you can’t drive? Is that the right thing to do?”

After that Sr finally relented, smiled, and embraced Lennox – finally seeming to understand the point.
