Texas Woman Let A Child Under 10 Drive And Found Out Why You Don’t
- Woman arrested after allegedly letting a child under ten drive her car.
- The child crashed and was thrown from the vehicle during the incident.
- She suffered minor injuries but easily could have been hurt worse.
A bizarre scenario unfolded in San Antonio recently as home security cameras caught a young child driving a car and crashing into a truck.
As you can see in the videos, a sedan rapidly accelerates down the street in reverse as apparent screams can be heard in the background. The child then yanks the steering wheel, causing the car to turn as the front door flies open. The vehicle then crashes into a white pickup that is parked on the street.

The videos end shortly thereafter, but News 4 San Antonio reports the child was less than ten years old. Unfortunately, they were injured as they suffered a laceration on the forehead as well as “road rash” on one of her legs.
While young children have been known to take cars out for joyrides, that reportedly didn’t happen in this case. Quite the opposite as the NBC affiliate said 25 year old Ladeja Pickett was putting up Christmas decorations and asked the child, who wasn’t hers, to move the car.
Police said the child did as instructed and was thrown from the vehicle before the crash. Pickett was reportedly arrested, but there’s no word on the charges and Bexar County’s inmate lookup leaves a lot to be desired.
Even so, it’s not hard to imagine charges as letting a young child drive is incredibly reckless. Texas has a graduated driver license program and it enables 15 year olds to get a learner license and practice driving with an adult. They can then apply for a provisional license when they’re 16 and meet certain requirements.
