Porsche Brings Back Its Wildest Seat Fabrics And They Look Incredible

  • Porsche Classic has revived Pasha, Pepita, and Tartan upholstery.
  • New fabrics match the originals and promise to be high quality.
  • Their return will benefit owners interested in faithful restorations.

Few automakers celebrate their past as much as Porsche, which has introduced a stunning number of special editions and Heritage Design variants over the years. These vary wildly, but a number of newer models have had old school upholstery.

This has been a hit with enthusiasts and Porsche is doubling down as they’ve “reissued” their Pasha, Pepita, and Tartan fabric patterns. However, these are designed for classic cars instead of brand-new models.

As Porsche Classic Director Ulrike Lutz explained, “By reissuing these fabrics we are closing a gap, because most customers want to restore their historic or more recent classic cars to their original condition as closely as possible.”

While this is understandable, owners quickly ran into problems as many imitations were “either not at all suitable as seat fabric or lose their appearance after a short time.”

The lack of quality fabrics pushed Porsche to offer high caliber versions by themselves. The company said the focus on quality extends to their “feel and durability as well as to the accuracy of the often extremely complicated patterns and color combinations.”

The ‘new’ fabrics are available online and at dealerships, and will be offered in sections that measure 4.9 feet by 6.6 feet (1.5 m x 2 m). They’re available in a wide range of colors and patterns, with even more planned for the future.

Speaking of which, Porsche introduced Pepita in 1963. It rose to popularity over a decade earlier thanks to fashion designer Christian Dior.

Tartan fabrics followed in 1974 and were initially exclusive to the 911 Turbo. The chequered flag-inspired Pasha debuted in 1977 and recently made a comeback in the 911 Spirit 70.
