Few cars from throughout history defined “automotive excess” quite as well as the 1959 Cadillac. The car’s silhouette was the result of an ongoing industry bigger-is-better battle when it came to massive tailfins, generous brightwork, and advanced comfort for the time. The Pick of the Day is a restored, customized 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Toronto, Ontario.

The brochure for 1959 Cadillac models said, “Cadillac for 1959 presents a new realm of motoring majesty.” Regarding the Coupe de Ville specifically, it read, “The completely new profile and interior elegance of the Coupe de Ville assure its continued affection in the hearts of the world’s motorists. Inspect from any viewpoint, and you will discover a rare discernment and imagination by its designers… craftsmanship and quality by its builders.”

Exterior features of this eye-catching custom coupe include chrome brightwork, quad headlights dual side mirrors, hardtop roofline, and bullet-style taillights along with those extravagant tailfins. The lowered stance was made possible via an air suspension consisting of Slam Specialties SS-8 bags, BC Fabrication brackets, and Viair 485C compressor.

The interior has been fully restored; features include power-adjustable front bucket seats, power windows (including vent windows), auxiliary gauges, center console, aluminum dash trim, and fully carpeted trunk with custom liner.

Under the hood is a V-8 mated to a rebuilt Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission. Factory-issued engines for the ’59 Coupe de Ville were of the 390ci variety, although the seller doesn’t specify the displacement nor whether the engine is numbers-matching. The odometer reads 32,000 miles.
