From China To The World: Geely’s Master Plan For The Ev Era

Chinese automotive giant Geely has unveiled its ambitious five-year strategic blueprint for 2030 under the motto “One Geely, Leading through Innovation and Integration.” The plan marks a decisive shift in how the multi-brand automotive giant operates, signaling a move toward deeper global collaboration, stronger technological integration, and a more ecosystem-driven approach to competitiveness.

At its core, the strategy aims to strengthen top-level coordination across the group, build a unified strategic capability system, and position Geely as a leading global automaker while pioneering high-quality globalization for Chinese enterprises.

From Independent Brands to Deep Global Collaboration

Until now, Geely’s diverse brand portfolio—ranging from Geely Auto, Geely Galaxy, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr in China to global brands such as Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus—has largely operated independently. This structure limited synergy, despite Geely also being involved in partnerships like Smart with Mercedes-Benz and a growing collaboration with Renault Group.

Under the “One Geely” framework, this changes. Over the next five years, Geely plans to transition from brand-level independence to deep global collaboration, enabling technology co-creation, market co-expansion, and shared supply chains. The goal is to build a globally integrated organization capable of moving faster, reducing costs, and scaling innovation across markets.

At the same time, Geely will strengthen the “Geely” corporate brand while maintaining clear positioning and mutual empowerment across its portfolio brands. Domestic brands will leverage their strong home-market advantages, while global brands like Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus will contribute localized expertise in Europe and North America.

Ambitious Targets for 2030

Geely’s numerical targets reflect the scale of its ambition. By 2030, the group aims to:

– Achieve global sales of over 6.5 million vehicles, up from approximately 4.12 million in 2025
– Rank among the top five global automakers by unit sales
– Generate over 1 trillion RMB in annual revenue, equivalent to roughly €122 billion at current exchange rates
– Reach a new energy vehicle (NEV) penetration rate of more than 75%
– Sell over one-third of its vehicles outside China

These goals build on strong recent performance. In 2025, Geely became the fastest-growing automaker among the global top ten, with total sales rising 26% year-on-year to over 4 million vehicles for the first time. NEV sales surged 58% to nearly 2.3 million units, pushing NEV penetration to 56%.

Shifting from Manufacturing to Ecosystem Competitiveness

As Geely approaches its 40th anniversary, the company is entering what it describes as a new stage of development. The next five years will be critical for achieving three major transformations:

1. From product manufacturing competitiveness to ecosystem service competitiveness
2. From scale- and cost-driven growth to green and intelligent technology leadership
3. From fragmented brand operations to deep global integration

A central element of this shift is Geely’s focus on proprietary ecosystems, where long-term value is created not just by vehicles, but by software, services, energy solutions, and mobility platforms.

The “Seven-Dimension” Technology Ecosystem

Technologically, Geely’s strategy is built around its “Seven-Dimension” ecosystem, which includes intelligent driving, intelligent cockpits, E/E architecture, vehicle platforms, batteries, electric powertrains, and super hybrid systems.

The group plans to develop world-class new energy architectures covering A- to E-segment vehicles, while reducing average R&D cycles and per-model development costs by more than 30%. This efficiency is key to competing globally across both mass-market and premium segments.

Battery technology is another major focus. Geely is accelerating the industrialization of semi-solid-state and solid-state batteries, with in-house development of its first solid-state battery pack expected to be completed this year, followed by vehicle testing. Safety remains a top priority, with battery systems like the “Shendun Golden Battery” positioned to become industry benchmarks.

Expanding Ecosystems Beyond the Car

Beyond vehicles, Geely is investing heavily in three major ecosystem areas: user services, future mobility, and methanol-hydrogen electric vehicles.

The user services ecosystem aims to deliver a fully digital, transparent, and lifecycle-oriented ownership experience through initiatives such as the “Geely Boundless” service ecosystem. The goal is to boost customer satisfaction, repurchase rates, and brand loyalty.

In future mobility, Geely is building an integrated air–space–ground transportation ecosystem, bringing together autonomous driving, Robotaxis, and low-altitude aviation. By 2030, the group plans to deploy up to 100,000 customized Robotaxi vehicles and establish scalable mobility services in major cities.

Meanwhile, Geely continues to lead in methanol-hydrogen electric vehicle technology, with over 50,000 vehicles already in operation and more than 23 billion kilometers driven. This ecosystem spans fuel production, transportation, refueling infrastructure, and vehicle manufacturing, with applications expanding beyond passenger cars into shipping, construction, and industrial equipment.

Talent, Sustainability, and the Road Ahead

To support its transformation, Geely is investing heavily in talent development and organizational culture. Initiatives include expanded industry–education partnerships, AI-focused training programs, and a new youth innovation fund with planned investments of up to 300 million yuan.

Sustainability is positioned as a new engine of global competitiveness. Over the next five years, Geely plans to reduce carbon emissions across entire vehicle lifecycles, promote environmentally friendly materials, push key factories toward carbon neutrality, and work with suppliers to establish clear carbon-reduction roadmaps.

A Defining Decade for Geely

As Geely approaches its 40th anniversary, the “One Geely, Leading through Innovation and Integration” strategy represents more than a business plan—it is a blueprint for becoming a globally leading intelligent electric mobility technology company.

By combining scale, deep technological integration, ecosystem thinking, and global collaboration, Geely is positioning itself not just to grow, but to redefine what a modern global automaker looks like in the electric and intelligent era.
