Bmw I3 Debuts With 900 Km Range And 400 Kw Charging

The BMW 3 Series has long defined what it means to drive a BMW—blending performance, precision, and everyday usability. Now, that legacy enters a bold new chapter with the all-electric BMW i3, the second model built on BMW’s groundbreaking Neue Klasse platform.
Designed to push boundaries in range, performance, and digital innovation, the new i3 represents a major leap forward for the brand’s electrification strategy.
Up to 900 km Range and Ultra-Fast Charging
Setting a new benchmark in its segment, the BMW i3 delivers up to 900 km (WLTP) of all-electric range on a single charge. This impressive figure is made possible by sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, which combines advanced electric motors with high-density cylindrical battery cells and an 800-volt architecture.
Charging is equally impressive. With support for up to 400 kW DC fast charging, the i3 can add up to 400 km of range in just 10 minutes—putting it among the fastest-charging EVs in its class.
Performance Meets Intelligent Control
At launch, the i3 arrives as the i3 50 xDrive, featuring dual electric motors powering both axles. The system produces 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque, delivering the kind of performance expected from a modern BMW sports sedan.
Central to its driving dynamics is BMW’s new “Heart of Joy” control unit—a powerful onboard computer that manages all driving functions in real time. Working alongside three additional high-performance processors for infotainment, automated driving, and comfort systems, the i3 introduces a new digital architecture with up to 20 times more processing power than previous BMW models.
The result is sharper handling, smoother responses, and a more intuitive driving experience.
Modern Design, Classic Proportions
While unmistakably part of the 3 Series family, the new i3 introduces a fresh design language. Its clean 2.5-box silhouette features a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and a sleek, sloping roofline.
At the front, a reinterpreted kidney grille and slim headlights create a bold, futuristic look, while the signature shark-nose profile reinforces its sporty character. Flush door handles, sculpted wheel arches, and L-shaped LED taillights complete the modern aesthetic.
BMW will offer 11 exterior paint finishes at launch, including the exclusive M Le Castellet Blue.
A Digital-First, Sustainable Interior
Inside, the i3 benefits from a purpose-built EV architecture that maximizes space and comfort. The cabin is centered around the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system, which integrates:
– Panoramic Vision display
– Optional 3D Head-Up Display
– Central touchscreen
– Multi-function steering wheel
This setup ensures drivers can keep their eyes on the road while accessing key information seamlessly.
Sustainability also plays a key role. Upholstery materials like Econeer—made from 100% recycled polyester—highlight BMW’s commitment to reducing environmental impact without compromising premium quality.
Advanced Safety and Driver Assistance
The BMW i3 comes equipped with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems designed to enhance safety and convenience. Features like Soft-Stop technology ensure smoother braking, while intelligent parking and driving aids work seamlessly with the driver in everyday scenarios.
Built in Munich, Designed for a Fully Electric Future
Production of the new i3 will take place at BMW’s historic Munich plant, which has undergone major upgrades in recent years to support next-generation EV manufacturing. Production is set to begin in August 2026, with customer deliveries expected in autumn.
By 2027, the Munich facility will transition only to producing fully electric vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform—marking a significant milestone in BMW’s electrification journey.
