Bentley Torcal Debuts As Brand’s First Electric Suv

Bentley has officially entered a new era of electrification with the all-new Bentley Torcal, the British luxury automaker’s first fully electric production model and a major step toward its future design, technology and sustainability strategy.

Positioned as a sleek, high-performance luxury SUV, the Torcal combines Bentley’s traditional focus on craftsmanship and effortless performance with an advanced 800-volt electric powertrain, sophisticated active suspension and a technology-rich interior.

The new model is offered in two versions at launch: the standard Torcal and the performance-focused Torcal S. The latter produces up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful production Bentley yet.

Bentley Torcal Introduces a New Design Direction

The Torcal introduces a more minimalist and progressive design language for Bentley while retaining recognizable elements of the brand’s heritage.

Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and upright front-end give the electric SUV a substantial road presence. Bentley describes the design philosophy through four visual “reads,” beginning with overall proportions and progressing through graphical elements, surface treatment and fine details.

One of the most distinctive elements is the new Floating Diamond Grille. The grille incorporates 76 hand-applied illuminated diamonds, creating a signature lighting effect when the vehicle is unlocked. At the rear, the design is deliberately cleaner, with broad surfaces and powerful rear haunches creating a muscular stance.

The Torcal is also the first Bentley to use the company’s redesigned emblem, adding another visual distinction to the new-generation model.

Inside, the traditional Bentley wing-inspired dashboard architecture is combined with curved OLED displays, premium natural materials and physical controls for frequently used functions.

The cabin can be configured with leather, Dinamica, wood veneers, aluminum finishes and a new Merino wool fabric developed with British textile maker Fox Brothers. Bentley says the wool material is the first automotive wool fabric to receive Responsible Wool Standard certification.

A new Ombré Walnut finish uses individually selected layers of responsibly sourced walnut off-cuts and craft paper, while the Sunburst Aluminium finish draws inspiration from the engine-turned aluminum dashboards used by historic Bentleys.

Bentley Torcal Delivers Up to 888 PS

The Torcal is powered by two permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors, providing all-wheel drive and instant torque.

The standard Torcal develops 821 PS and 1,155 Nm, enabling a 0-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The Torcal S raises output to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm when Launch Control is activated. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, while top speed rises to 162 mph (260 km/h).

The result is performance that places the Torcal among Bentley’s quickest production models while maintaining the smooth, progressive character expected from the brand.

113.2-kWh Battery and Up to 600 km of Range

The electric Bentley uses a 113.2-kWh battery pack and an 800-volt electrical architecture.

Bentley quotes a maximum driving range of around 600 km (373-375 miles), depending on specification and market. At a high-power DC charger, the Torcal can replenish its battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 16 minutes under the stated charging conditions.

The combination of long range and rapid charging is particularly important for a vehicle designed around long-distance luxury travel. Bentley has also focused heavily on efficiency without sacrificing the performance expected from its first electric model.

Active Suspension Replaces Traditional Compromises

The Torcal introduces Bentley’s latest active suspension technology, using independently controlled two-valve dampers and electrically controlled hydraulic systems at each wheel.

The system can continuously adjust the suspension to provide a smoother ride or greater body control depending on driving conditions and selected mode. Combined with all-wheel steering, it gives the large luxury SUV considerably more agility than its dimensions might suggest.

Rear-wheel steering can reduce the turning circle to approximately 11 meters, helping the Torcal maneuver more easily in urban environments and tight parking areas.

The Torcal can therefore shift between relaxed long-distance cruising and more dynamic driving without requiring the compromises traditionally associated with large luxury SUVs.

Four Experience Modes Change More Than Driving Settings

Bentley has taken a broader approach to drive modes with the Torcal.

The four Experience Modes — Bentley, Comfort, Sport and Refresh — influence not only powertrain and chassis behavior but also the atmosphere inside the cabin.

Bentley Mode focuses on the brand’s traditional combination of comfort and driver engagement. Comfort Mode reduces distractions and can hide most non-essential digital information, while Sport introduces a more immersive sound and visual experience.

Refresh takes a different approach, increasing fresh-air circulation and brightening the cabin to create a lighter and more invigorating environment.

The Torcal also features curved OLED displays, facial recognition and smartphone-based digital key functionality. An augmented-reality head-up display can project navigation instructions and driver-assistance information into the driver’s field of view.

Bentley Creates a Soundtrack for an Electric Future

One of the biggest challenges for performance EVs is replacing the mechanical character traditionally associated with an internal-combustion engine.

Rather than simply reproducing an artificial engine sound, Bentley developed what it calls the Bentley Dynamic Symphony.

The soundtrack uses recordings of real instruments, including drums, viola and bass guitar, to create a distinctive sound that changes according to vehicle speed and driver torque demand.

The system is designed to provide sensory feedback rather than simply mimic the sound of a V8 engine. It becomes more pronounced in Sport mode but can also be switched off when a quieter driving experience is preferred.

Even smaller sounds throughout the cabin have been carefully designed. The indicator sound, for example, is based on a recording of a hammer striking leather in Bentley’s upholstery workshop.

For those who want a more conventional high-end listening experience, the Torcal comes with a 620-watt, 16-speaker audio system, while an optional 1,780-watt Naim for Bentley system features 28 speakers, Dolby Atmos and additional headrest speakers.

Luxury Meets More Sustainable Materials

Bentley has also used the Torcal to introduce new approaches to interior materials.

The new Merino wool upholstery provides an alternative to traditional leather while retaining the handcrafted character expected from a Bentley interior. Other available materials include sustainable Dinamica, multiple wood veneers, technical finishes and aluminum trim.

The result is intended to make the Torcal feel distinctly Bentley while demonstrating how the brand can evolve its approach to luxury as electrification becomes central to its future.

Torcal S Adds a More Aggressive Personality

The standard Torcal is designed around understated luxury, while the Torcal S introduces a noticeably sportier appearance.

The performance version features black exterior brightwork, dark rear lamps, a dedicated body kit, red brake calipers, S badging and black Bentley wing badges. Inside, the S receives its own color split, stitching and quilting patterns, along with sports pedals and Piano Black veneer as standard.

The visual changes reinforce the additional performance provided by the more powerful electric powertrain.

Bentley’s Electric Future Starts With the Torcal

The Bentley Torcal represents considerably more than the company’s first battery-electric vehicle. It is intended to establish a new template for Bentley design, technology, craftsmanship and passenger comfort as the brand moves deeper into electrification.

With up to 888 PS, 1,350 Nm, a 113.2-kWh battery, approximately 600 km of range and 800-volt charging technology, the Torcal combines the numbers expected from a modern performance EV with the traditional luxury and craftsmanship associated with Bentley.

Most importantly, the Torcal demonstrates that Bentley is not treating electrification simply as a change in propulsion. The company is using its first EV to rethink how a luxury vehicle looks, sounds, feels and interacts with its occupants.

The Torcal and Torcal S therefore mark the beginning of a new chapter for Bentley — one where electric performance and traditional British craftsmanship are designed to coexist in the same flagship luxury SUV.
