Autohunter Spotlight: 1969 Amc Javelin
The world of classic pony cars is pretty crowded and very popular. In today’s market, cars like the Ford Mustang/Mercury Cougar, Chevy Camaro/Pontiac Firebird, and the Plymouth Barracuda/Dodge Challenger are some of the hottest cars of the 1960-70s, but there is another great car that is sadly overlooked despite offering awesome styling, ample power, and a degree of rarity. That car, a 1969 AMC Javelin, is currently listed for sale on AutoHunter by a private seller. The blue on black pony car features a Typhoon 343ci V-8 engine, automatic transmission with console, stripes, Vintage Air climate control system, dual exhaust system, spare tire, owner’s manuals, receipts, restoration photos, car cover, and a clear title.
The Javelin was American Motors Corporation’s entry into the world of pony cars. Designed by Dick Teague, offered with a variety of powertrain options, getting very favorable reviews in Road & Track and Car and Driver magazines, and even competing to great success on the race track, the Javelin was not a competitive seller in a world of Mustangs and Camaros but it was nonetheless solid seller, even outpacing the Barracuda in 1969.
The exterior of this Javelin looks to be in nice shape. The car received a repaint in its Caravelle Blue hue in 2019, and also had its chrome trim replaced at the same time. Beyond that, the car looks to be in nice shape and looks excellent riding on period-correct 15-inch Cragar wheels with 225/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised white letter tires.
The interior is finished in correct pattern black vinyl, and the woodgrain trim also looks to be in good shape. The car is equipped with upgraded Vintage Air air conditioning, and I love the look of the center console with the three-speed Shift-Command automatic transmission.
Under the hood is the “Typhoon” 343ci four-barrel V-8 engine with 280 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. The engine features a high capacity aluminum radiator and larger alternator, both were installed in April 2023. Happily, this Javelin is also equipped with power steering and front disc brakes.
An added bonus with the Javelin is that when you show up to a show, you may be the only one in attendance. I personally like that kind of exclusivity.
If you are looking for a car that is a bit different from the rest, this 1969 AMC Javelin may well be that certain something to add to your garage. Our AutoHunter Spotlight features tough styling, attractive color, and enough horsepower to make you smile, so be on target and place your bid pronto — the auction ends on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).
