Autohunter Spotlight: 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible
Right now on AutoHunter, you can find this restored 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible, which is powered by a C-code 289ci V8 paired with a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic. Finished in Silver Frost and equipped with a black convertible top over a black vinyl interior, this classic pony car is now offered by the selling dealer with Oregon registration.
As part of the restoration, the body was refinished in its factory color of Silver Frost, which coordinates well with the black soft top. When lowered, the top fits under a black boot. Additional exterior features include chrome bumpers, bright trim and mirror housings, plastic rear window, and dual exhaust outlets.
This horse doesn’t get down the road on hooves. It has paws—215/70 Uniroyal Tiger Paw whitewall radials, to be exact. Those surround a set of 14-inch steel wheels fitted with wheel covers.
The restoration included the interior, which is furnished with black vinyl front bucket and bench rear seating along with black trim and carpeting. Other features include manual windows and steering, factory-style AM radio, and center console, which surrounds the transmission’s T-bar shifter.
For 1966, the Mustang received visual updates which included a new five-gauge instrument panel. As the picture above shows, those gauges include a 140-mph speedometer and displays for the fuel level, oil pressure, amps, and temperature. The odometer indicates 24,008 miles, but this Mustang is mileage-exempt, according to its title.
See that “C” in the VIN? That means there’s a C-code Challenger 289ci V8 with a two-barrel carburetor under the hood. Running 9.3:1 compression, it was factory-rated for 200 horsepower. A Cruise-O-Matic three-speed auto sends its output to the 2.80 rear end. When this pony car needs to slow down, manual brakes help it stop galloping.
This 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible is a fantastic combination of classic design, top-down cruising, and V8 power. The only thing left to add to that is you. Get your bids in before the auction ends on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 12:15 p.m. (MST).
