The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan has received nearly 100,000 pre-orders within just three weeks of pre-sales opening in January 2026, a strong demand driven by substantial technical upgrades that justify the price increase.

The new-generation SU7 carries a higher price (up by CNY 10,000 to CNY 14,000, or approx. $1,400 to $2,000) because it is a significantly refreshed model featuring major hardware and software upgrades, effectively offering higher value.

Key upgrades across all versions include:

– High-voltage Platform: The entire lineup has moved from a 400V architecture to a high-voltage platform (752V for Standard/Pro, 897V for Max), which dramatically improves charging speeds.

– Enhanced Safety: Passive safety has been reinforced with standard 2200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel embedded roll-cages and door anti-collision beams, along with an increase from 7 to 9 airbags.

– Intelligent Driving Hardware: LiDAR is now a standard feature across all trims, along with 4D millimeter-wave radar and the Nvidia Thor U chip for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

– Improved Performance and Range: Battery packs were redesigned for higher energy density, with the Pro version targeting a CLTC range of up to 902 km (approx. 560 miles).

– Comfort Features: All trims now include standard features like seat ventilation, heating, and massage functions, and the Pro and Max versions feature closed dual-chamber air suspension with continuous damping control (CDC).

Market Performance

The strong pre-order numbers, despite the higher price, indicate high consumer confidence in the updated model’s value proposition and the brand’s response to prior market feedback regarding safety and standard features.

Sales staff in various cities reported robust demand, with some flagship stores in Beijing recording over 400 confirmed orders. The high demand has led to expected delivery wait times of several months for new buyers.

Xiaomi has also adjusted factory scheduling to prioritize the new-generation SU7 and ensure a smooth transition, aiming to avoid the delivery bottlenecks experienced with earlier models.
